Montpellier president Louis Nicollin wants Diego Maradona to replace coach Rene Girard in a bid to draw attention to the club.
The Ligue 1 champions have endured a disappointing campaign and sit in sixth spot in the table, 10 points behind leaders PSG.
As a result, Nicollin has opted not to extend coach Girard’s stay beyond the end of the season.
“To annoy PSG, I want to bring in Diego Maradona,” the 69-year old told RMC Sport.
“If I have this guy, I do nothing, this is a film all by himself. With him, we all would make the newspapers.”
The outspoken president admitted acquiring Maradona would prove difficult as a result of financial constraints.
He added that former France boss Raymond Domenech is also a candidate.
“Domenech, that I would not mind. We will think, Monpellier is not any club,” he said.
