Novara have sacked coach Emiliano Mondonico with immediate effect and reinstated former boss Attilio Tesser.

Tesser secured Novara’s return to Serie A with back-to-back promotions over the last two seasons but was removed from his post at the end of January as results went against the league newcomers.

His replacement, Mondonico, fared no better and only managed to pick up five points during his seven games at the helm.

Now, the club have announced that Tesser has made a dramatic return to Stadio Silvio Piola, just 36 days after being sacked.

“Novara Calcio can conform the termination of the professional relationship with coach Emiliano Mondonico. The decision was made in the morning following an open discussion between the two parties,” a statement on the club’s website said.

“Novara would lile to sincerely thank Emiliano Mondonico for his effort during his time at the club and at the same time, announce the return on the bench of Attilio Tesser.”

The new Novara coach now has the unenviable task of trying to salvage something from the season with the club sitting 19th, 12 points from safety.

His first game back in charge will come against Udinese at the weekend, a team he enjoyed a number of years at as a player.
