In a contest between two sides who have a real reputation for their high-scoring encounters, Portland will welcome LA Galaxy to Providence Park in the early hours on Thursday morning.

Starting with the hosts, while Portland might have stormed their way at the MLS is Back trophy thanks to a 2-1 win against Orlando last month, the Greens have really struggled to adjust back to life in the Western Conference. Marking their return to regular-season action with what was a shock 3-0 drumming at the hands of Seattle on home soil, Head Coach Giovanni Savarese has a growing headache over his side’s continued issues at the back. Playing out what turned out to be the most dramatic of 4-4 draws against Real Salt Lake at Providence Park last weekend, Portland have now shipped seven goals in back-to-back appearances and have failed to record a single clean sheet in any of their last nine contests across all competitions.

As for the visitors, almost acting in a role reversal to Portland, LA Galaxy have really managed to find their feet after what was a shambolic showing in the MLS is Back tournament last month. Crashing out in the group stage thanks to a 6-2 finale drumming against rivals Los Angeles, the former American heavyweights should find the mood in their camp on the rise. Once again impressing over the weekend, Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s men landed a 3-2 win against San Jose and have now managed to clinch back-to-back victories for the first time since returning to action. In a contest that is famous for producing fireworks, the last four meetings between the two sides has produced 15 goals and we’re backing another lively contest in midweek.
