Still struggling with some glaring defensive issues, a struggling Real Madrid will travel to a free-scoring RB Salzburg for their penultimate pre-season outing on Wednesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, although RB Salzburg may have suffered a 5-3 defeat when they welcomed Chelsea to the Red Bull Arena last week, the Austrian champions still gained plenty of plaudits and the morale in their camp continues to soar. Now securing back-to-back victories in their opening two Bundesliga appearances and an overwhelming favorite to defend their domestic crown, Jesse Marsch’s side also once again impressed in their empathic 4-1 win over Mattersburg last weekend. Although the former New York Red Bulls boss still has some concerns over his sides’ inability to record a clean sheet in their last three outings, Wednesday’s hosts have continued to catch the eye in the final third. Scoring two or more goals in each of their last seven appearances, it is also worth noting that just their last four matches on home soil have produced 20 goals.

As for the visitors, while Real Madrid may have managed to secure a hard-fought 5-3 win over Fenerbahce in their final Audi Cup outing, Los Blancos have continued to struggle over the summer and some have begun to question Zinedine Zidane’s return. Enduring their worst campaign in recent memory and finishing 19 points adrift of runaway league leaders Barcelona, the former European champions have lost five of their last seven matches and have recorded just one win in 90 minutes since the start of May. Once again shipping a trio of goals against Fenerbache out in Munich last week, Madrid have shipped 11 goals in just their last three appearances, including their embarrassing 7-3 hammering against bitter rivals Atletico last month.
