Now tipped by many as the overwhelming favorite to lift the Brazilian Serie A title this year, Palmeiras will host a struggling Fluminense side on Wednesday.

Starting with Palmeiras, after bringing in former Brazil national coach Luiz Felipe Scolari earlier in the season, it has been nothing short of a stellar start for Wednesday’s hosts. Already holding a five-point buffer at the top of the table, Palmeiras have now not lost any fixture in Serie A since the 18th of July. Along with now holding the best-attacking record in Brazil’s top-tier, it will be their recent defensive stats impressing Scolari. There 23 goals conceded this season now means that they also hold the best defensive record in the division.

As for the visitors, despite briefly flirting with the Copa Libertadores positions earlier in the year, Fluminense have been drastically short of form. Coming off the back of a lackluster showing in their 0-0 draw with Sport Recife last week, they have now failed to win any of their last four Serie A appearances. Battling to stay in the top half of the table, Marcelo Oliveira’s side have now scored just one goal in nearly 550 minutes of football. Along with struggling of late, Fluminense have now lost their last four matches at Allianz Parque.
