Palmeiras set to sign Barcelona reject

Brazilian side Palmeiras are set to complete the signing of Barcelona defender Henrique, the player’s representative has revealed.

The 25-year-old joined Alviverde on loan last summer from Barcelona and he has been an instant hit at Estadio Municipal.

The highly rated defender seems to have done enough to earn a permanent contract at Palmeiras, as confirmed by the player’s agent.

“Henrique has already signed everything he had to sign,” Marcos Malaquias told Lancenet.

“The final details have been taken care of and the announcement is now a mere formality. Everything is settled.”

The Brazilian defender started his professional career at Coritiba, where he spent two years before joining Palmeiras in 2008.

However, after playing just five league games for Alviverde, Henrique joined Barcelona in an €8 million deal and signed a five-year contract with the Catalans.

The player spent next three years on loan spells at Bayer Leverkusen and Racing Santander before returning to his former club last summer.

After impressing in 36 league appearances for Palmeiras, Henrique looks set to join the club on permanent transfer without having played a single game for Barcelona.
