(GSM) – Ajax failed to do what it had to do against Greek side PAOK, drawing 1-1 despite being much stronger in the opening half.

The Dutch side dominated from the start at their own Amsterdam ArenA, knowing that it would be vital to get a home victory in this Champions League qualifying tie.

And Martin Jol’s men got their reward after just minute when World Cup star Luis Suarez hit the Greek net with a bicycle kick.

But the balance shifted in the second half and although Ajax continued to create chances, the Greek guests equalized through Vladimir Ivic in the 72nd minute.

The second leg of this tie is scheduled to take place in Thessaloniki on August 4.
