Lanus striker Mariano Pavone insisted his side deserved victory against Flamengo, in their Copa Libertadores draw on Wednesday.

The Argentines came out fighting in their opening Copa match of 2012, and had several chances to take the lead before falling behind to Leo Moura’s strike.

Pavone was heavily involved in the equaliser, as he set up Cesar Carranza to earn a 1-1 draw with their Brazilian opponents.

The former River Plate and Betis man Pavone was satisfied with his team’s performance against Ronaldinho and the rest of the Flamengo superstars, but he was certain that an even better result was up for grabs in front of their own fans.

“I think we did everything right, we put the effort in. We wanted to and deserved to win,” the forward told reporters.

“However, we did not have the same ruthlessness in front of goal that we had against San Lorenzo (in a 4-1 victory).”
