Market: Philadelphia Union win
Odds: 13/8 @ 888sport
Smelling what is a golden chance to extend on their stellar purple patch in the early hours of Sunday morning, Philadelphia Union will travel to Chicago Fire this weekend.
Starting with the hosts, putting in what was another torrid display in midweek and suffering a 1-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Cincinnati on home soil, Chicago find themselves in the midst of a real nightmare. Already sat rock-bottom at the foot of the Eastern Conference and the pressure firmly on Raphaël Wicky’s shoulders, The Fire have only shown a host of issues on either side of the international break. Now losing each of their last three MLS matchups on the spin and failing to record a single strike in any of those three consecutive defeats, Chicago have really failed to build off of that 1-0 win against Inter Miami last month. Gaining a real reputation for their continued problems in the final third, The Blacks have lost seven of their last eight contests and face another stern test at Soldier Field this weekend.
As for the visitors, while Chicago might find themselves enduring a woeful run of form, Philadelphia have continued to impress many across the MLS this season. With the mood in their camp at a real high, Jim Curtin’s men were last seen in midweek putting in another eye-catching display as they landed a 1-0 win against Columbus Crew on home soil. Still boosted by that stunning late comeback against former champions Atlanta last weekend, The Union are now in the midst of an eight-match unbeaten run that stems all the way back to May 2nd. Knowing that victory on Sunday could move them within touching distance of top spot in the Eastern Conference, it should also be noted that Philadelphia have mustered 13 points from just their last five contests. Given the huge recent gulf between the two sides this weekend, we’re backing an away win here.
