Pochettino heaps praise on new addition Lovren

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed his high hopes for new signing Dejan Lovren.

The Croatia international joined the Premier League club from Lyon last month on a four-year contract for a reported fee of £8.5 million.

And Pochettino is delighted to have brought the 24-year-old defender to St Mary’s.

“We’re very clear about our goals and Lovren was one of them,” the Argentinian told the Daily Star Sunday.

“He is quality as a player, has a presence on the field and he’s good at solving difficult situations.

“I think his qualities will really suit the Premier League, so we’re very happy to have him and to bring him into this project.”

Southampton, who were promoted back to the Premier League for the first time in seven years last year, ended their campaign in 14th spot.

However, Pochettino still believes their squad needs to improve further and revealed that other deals are in the pipeline.

“There are some rumours of different players joining Southampton and a lot of agents have linked us with players,” he added.

“It’s not just (Victor) Wanyama that we’re looking at. There are a couple more players we are expecting to talk to.

“All the players I have heard mentioned are good footballers and I think they’d all be happy to come here – but perhaps we don’t have a place for all of them!”
