Police question Terry over race row

Police have confirmed they have interviewed John Terry as part of their investigations into the alleged racial abuse of Anton Ferdinand.

The 30-year-old Chelsea and England captain was questioned at his home in Surry on Friday as police continue to piece together what happened at Loftus Road in the game between the Blues and Queens Park Rangers, with Terry denying that he racially abused Ferdinand but admitting to using offensive words.

The Football Association are also investigating the defender, a move which the player has welcomed as he sees the inquest as an opportunity to clear his name.

A handful of other Chelsea and QPR players have also been interviewed as part of the process and a decision on whether Terry will be charged or not is expected to be made around Christmas.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A 30-year-old man was interviewed under caution on Friday November 25. He was not arrested.”

A Scotland Yard spokesman added: “A 30-year-old man was interviewed under caution on Friday.”

“Police were notified of an incident on Sunday 23 October involving alleged racial abuse.”

“This is currently being assessed by officers from Hammersmith and Fulham.”
