Korona Kielce moved to just goal difference from the summit of the Polish Ekstraklasa summit after defeating Gornik Zabrze 2-0 on Monday.

Two goals in two minutes did the damage for Korona, who are hardly one of Poland’s biggest clubs but nonetheless find themselves in the top two after nine games.

Having tests Zabrze’s goal a handful of times in the game’s opening stages, Korona took the lead in front of their home fans through a 25th-minute goal from on-loan Lech Poznan midfielder Jacek Kielb.

Tomasz Lisowski’s cross from the left found Vlastimir Jovanovic in the area, and the Bosnian midfielder’s touch caused enough chaos for Kielb to poke home from close range.

Two minutes later, striker Michal Zielinski threaded his shot home after some neat hold-up play from Slovakian defender Pavol Stano.

Zabrze are now 11th on the table but still have a four-point buffer to the relegation spots, while Korona hold second by three points from regular continental competitors and next-up opponents Lech Poznan.

Reigning champions and perennial heavyweights Wisla Krakow lurk in fifth, four points adrift of Korona and leaders Slask Wroclaw.
