Two of last seasons heavy hitters in the Western Conference, in the early hours of Saturday morning last seasons winners The Portland Timbers will travel to CenturyLink Field to face off against a Seattle Sounders side who could not have endured a worse start to the new season.

Well, for the hosts on Saturday, despite only their record against The Timbers stopping them from being crowned champions of the Western Division, Brian Schmetzer’s Seattle side now sit just a single point above bottom spot this time around. Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Chicago Fire last time out, along with crashing out of the US Open Cup last week, the hosts have recorded just one win over the past month and have recorded just one victory at CenturyLink Field since the start of March.

As for the defending Western Conference champions, although it hasn’t been an ideal start to the new campaign, Giovanni Savarese’s Portland side still heave their eyes set on a push up the table. With the opportunity to close the gap on the top three, The Timbers are coming off the back of an impressive 1-1 draw with runaway leaders Atlanta and along with booking their spot in the quarter-finals of the US Open cup, they are yet to be beaten in any competition since April. One man to watch is top scorer Diego Valeri, the midfielder already has six goals this season and was also the MLS MVP last season.
