Marching onto a four-match unbeaten run over the weekend, Kenny Jacket’s Portsmouth side will look to book their spot in the second round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday when they host a struggling Gillingham side at Fratton Park.

Although Pompey may have just missed out on the playoffs last season, Kenny Jacket’s side have started the new season in very impressive form. Coming off the back of thumping Plymouth 3-0 over the weekend, The Blues are now unbeaten in their last four and their start to the new season can be put down to the form of duo Ronan Curtis and Jamal Lowe. With both players finding the net last time out, they have nine combined goals in their opening six League One matches. Although Portsmouth may have fallen out of the League Cup with a 2-1 loss to AFC Wimbledon, there is an air of confidence around Fratton Park, they have now scored seven goals in their last two home matches.

As for Steve Lovell’s Gillingham side, although The Gills started their new League One campaign with two wins on the bounce, the visitors travel to the South Coast worryingly short of confidence. Coming off the back of a 2-1 loss to Barnsley over the weekend, Gillingham are now without a win in their last five and their defensive issues will be a huge concern to Lovell. Losing four on their winless run, The Gills have now conceded nine. Now losing their last three matches on the road, we believe this could be another tough nights work.
