AS Monaco and Marseille will lock horns with each other in Ligue 1 this coming weekend. The match between Adi Hütter’s side and Jacques Abardonado ’s team will be held at Stade Louis-II and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Saturday.

AS Monaco

AS Monaco are doing extremely well in Ligue 1 at the moment. While Paris Saint-Germain are expected to win the title yet again this season, Monaco are among the clubs who are challenging for the a place in the top four of the Ligue 1 table. And they are very much on course to do so.

Les Rouge et Blanc are fourth in the Ligue 1 table at the moment with 11 points from six matches. AS Monaco are level on points with defending champions and Ligue 1 giants PSG and only two points behind Brest. There is still a chance that they could challenge for the championship.

AS Monaco will head into the Ligue 1 match against Marseille at Stade Louis-II on Saturday evening on the back of a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nice at home in the league. It came after a 2-2 draw with Lorient on the road in Ligue 1 and followed a 3-0 victory over Lens in front of their own fans in the league.

Team News:

AS Monaco are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation against Marseille. Adi Hütter’s side will have Philipp Kohn in goal. Wilfried Singo, Denis Zakaria and Soungoutou Magassa will be the three defenders. Vanderson, Mohamed Camara, Youssouf Fofana and Caio Henrique will be the four midfielders and will have Takumi Minamino and Aleksandr Golovin ahead of them in a more attacking role. Former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun will lead the line for Monaco.

Marseille

Marseille are one of the biggest clubs in France, but they have not been at their best for a while now. Marseille have seen Paris Saint-Germain overtake them and enjoy winning titles after titles. Les Phocéens did finish as high as third in the Ligue 1 table last season, but things are really bad for them at the moment.

Les Olympiens are as low as eighth in the Ligue 1 table at the moment with nine points from six matches. Marseille are two points behind AS Monaco in fourth and are four points behind leaders Brest.

Marseille are in a poor run of form at the moment. They have won just one of their last five Ligue 1 matches. Jacques Abardonado’s side lost 4-0 against Marseille away from home in Ligue 1 last weekend. It came after a 3-3 draw with Ajax away from home in Amsterdam in UEFA Europa League and followed a goalless draw with Toulouse in front of their own fans in Ligue 1.

Team News:

Marseille are likely to line up in a 3-5-2 formation. Pau Lopez will be in goal for the home team. Chancel Mbemba, Samuel Gigot and Leonardo Balerdi will be the three central defenders. Valentin Rongier, Azzedine Ounahi and Jordan Veretout will be three central midfielders and will have Jonathan Clauss and Renan Lodi on either flank. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Vitor Oliveira will be the two forwards for the visiting team.

Key Factors to Consider

  • AS Monaco have scored 15 goals in 6 Ligue 1 matches this season.
  • Marseille have scored 7 goals in 6 Ligue 1 matches this season.
  • AS Monaco have conceded 8 goals in 6 Ligue 1 games this campaign.
  • Marseille have conceded 8 goals in 6 Ligue 1 games this campaign.
  • Wissam Ben Yedder has scored 4 goals in 6 matches for AS Monaco this season.

Conclusion

AS Monaco are doing extremely well at the moment, while Marseille are struggling at the moment. Playing at home will also give Monaco the advantage in this particular Ligue 1 match. It is hard to see Monaco drop all three points against Marseille. It is likely that this match will end in a win for the home win.

Prediction: AS Monaco to win 2-1
