New York City FC and Charlotte FC will face each other in Major League Soccer this week. The match between Nick Cushing’s side and Christian Lattanzio’s team will be held at the Yankee Stadium in The Bronx in New York and is scheduled to kick off at 12:30am UK time on Thursday.

New York City FC

New York City FC did extremely well in Major League Soccer last season. The Pigeons finished as high as third in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference last season and progressed to the Conference Finals as well. They will be determined to repeat their heroics of last season this time around and possibly go even further.

Nick Cushing’s side, though, are not doing so well in Major League Soccer at the moment. New York City FC are as low as 11th in the Eastern Conference table now with 24 points from 21 matches. They are just even points above bottom side Inter Miami CF and as many as 20 points behind leaders FC Cincinnati.

New York City FC will head into Major League Soccer game against Charlotte FC this week on the back of a 1-0 victory over Montreal away from home in the league. It came after a 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers on the road in MLS and followed a 2-2 draw with Atlanta United away from home in the league.

Team News:

Santiago Rodriguez will not play for New York City FC because of a yellow card suspension. James Sands is part of the USA team at the Gold Cup and is not in the New York City FC squad at the moment. Thiago Martins has a knee injury and is likely to sit out. Luis Barraza is likely to keep his place between the sticks for New York City FC.

Charlotte FC

Charlotte FC did moderately well in Major League Soccer last season, and it seems that they will end up in a similar position this time around. The Crown ended up ninth in the MLS Eastern Conference table last season and finished 19th overall. They did not qualify for the playoffs.

And it is unlikely that Charlotte FC will qualify for the playoffs this season either. Christian Lattanzio’s side are as low as 10th in the Major League Soccer table at the moment with 24 points from 20 matches. They are seven points above bottom side Inter Miami CF and 20 points behind leaders FC Cincinnati.

Charlotte FC will head into the Major League Soccer match against New York City FC on the back of a goalless draw with Montreal at home in MLS. It came after a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls on the road in Major League Soccer and followed a 3-3 draw with the Seattle Sounders in front of their own fans.

Team News:

Adilson Malanda is unlikely to play for Charlotte FC because of a left lower leg issue. Hamady Diop could miss out for the visiting team as well due to a lower abdominal injury. Scott Arfield is not eligible for the match. Justin Meram will start for Charlotte FC.

Key Factors to Consider

  • New York City FC have scored 22 goals in 21 Major League Soccer games this season.
  • Charlotte FC have scored 27 goals in 20 Major League Soccer games this season.
  • New York City FC have conceded 26 goals in 21 Major League Soccer matches this campaign.
  • Charlotte FC have conceded 35 goals in 20 Major League Soccer matches this campaign.
  • New Yorks City have won 5 MLS matches, while Charlotte FC have lost 8 MLS games.

Conclusion

Neither New York City FC nor Charlotte FC are not doing particularly in Major League Soccer at the moment. The MLS fixture between these two sides is not going to be exactly great. It is very likely that this match could end in a scored draw.
