Sporting Kansas City and Chicago Fire will lock horns with each other in Major League Soccer this coming weekend. The match between Peter Vermes’s team and Frank Klopas’s side will be held at the Children’s Mercy Park in  Kansas City, Kansas and is scheduled to kick off at 1:30am UK time on Sunday.

Sporting Kansas City

The Sporting Kansas City are not having a very good Major League Soccer campaign at the moment. The Wizards finished as low as 12th in the Western Conference table last season and did not quality for the playoffs. It is now looking unlikely that Peter Vermes’s side will end up in the playoffs.

The Wizards are as low as 11th in the Major League Soccer Western Conference table at the moment. The Sporting Kansas City have picked up just 21 points from 20 matches. They are a point behind ninth-placed the Vancouver Whitecaps and do not appear to be in the running for Round of the playoffs.

The Sporting Kansas City will head into the Major League Soccer match against  the Chicago Fire on the back of a 2-2 draw with Los Angeles Galaxy away from home in MLS. It came after a 2-1 loss to LA Galaxy in front of their own fans in Major League Soccer and followed a 4-1 home win against Austin in the league.

Team News:

Alan Pulido will start for the Sporting Kansas City against the Chicago Fire. Erik Thommy will be included in the home team’s starting lineup as well. Kendall McIntosh will be in goal for the hosts. Remi Walter will start for the Sporting Kansas City in defensive midfield.

Chicago Fire

Like the Sporting Kansas City, the Chicago Fire are not having the best of the 2023 Major League Soccer campaign either. They are not looking very good when it comes to qualifying for the MLS playoffs, just like last season when they ended up as low as 12th in the standings.

The Chicago Fire are as low as 11th in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference table at the moment with 20 points from 18 matches. Frank Klopas’s side are three points behind ninth-placed DC United and eight points above bottom team Inter Miami CF.

The Men in Red will head into the Major League Soccer game against the Sporting Kansas City this weekend on the back of a 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers away from home in the league. It came after a 2-1 loss at the hands of Columbus Crew at home and followed a 4-1 hammering by the Houston Dynamo in front of their own fans in MLS.

Team News:

Kacper Przybyłko will start for the Chicago Fire after returning to the starting lineup against the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer in midweek. Brian Gutierrez will make his fourth successive start as well for the visiting team. Argentine duo Federico Navarro and Gaston Gimenez are likely to be included in the Chicago Fire starting lineup against Sporting Kansas City away from home in Major League Soccer this weekend.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Sporting Kansas City have scored 23 goals in 20 Major League Soccer matches this season.
  • Sporting Kansas City have conceded 29 gaols in 20 Major League Soccer matches this season.
  • The Chicago Fire have scored 24 goals in 18 Major League Soccer games this campaign.
  • The Chicago Fire have conceded 28 goals in 18 Major League Soccer games this campaign.
  • Sporting Kansas City have won 5 out of 20 Major League Soccer matches this season.

Conclusion

Neither Sporting Kansas City nor the Chicago Fire have done particularly well in Major League Soccer so far this season, and it is unlikely that either of them will be able to do any better. It is very likely that the match between these two teams will end in a draw.
