Toronto FC and Charlotte FC will face each other in Major League Soccer Eastern Conference this weekend. The match will be held at the BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario and is scheduled to kick off at 12:30am UK time on Sunday.

Toronto FC

Toronto FC are second from bottom in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference table at the moment. The Canadian club are 13th in the standings with 19 points from 21 matches, just a point above bottom side DC United, who have played 19 games.

Bob Bradley’s side will head into the match against Charlotte FC on the back of a 1-0 defeat to CF Montreal away from home in Major League Soccer. It followed a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Chicago Fire in the league which came after a 2-2 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes at home in the MLS.

Toronto FC need to improve defensively. They have conceded a goal in 50 of their last 51 MLS matches, including at least one in each of their previous 29 games.

Team News:

Italian star Lorenzo Insigne could make his debut for Toronto FC this weekend after joining on a free transfer earlier this summer. Federico Bernardeschi could feature for the Canadian club as well against Charlotte FC, while Mark-Anthony Kaye should keep his place in the starting lineup.

Charlotte FC

Charlotte FC are doing better than Toronto FC in Major League Soccer Eastern Conference at the moment. They currently find themselves eighth in the league table with 26 points from 21 matches and are comfortably placed in mid-table.

Christian Lattanzio’s side will head into the match against Toronto FC on the back of a win against Premier League club Chelsea in a pre-season friendly match. It followed a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Inter Miami away from home and a 4-1 hammering of Nashville in front of their own fans.

Charlotte FC’s 3-2 defeat to Inter Miami in South Beach was only the second time in this campaign that they had blown a second-half advantage.

Team News:

Noble Okello and Chris Mavinga could still be out with lower-body injuries, while Jesus Jimenez could be dropped after failing to score in his last four Major League Soccer matches.  Domenico Criscito has featured in three straight games at the back and will retain his place in the starting lineup.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Toronto FC have lost 4 of their last 6 MLS matches.
  • Toronto FC have won 1 of their last 6 MLS matches.
  • Toronto FC have conceded 39 goals in 21 MLS matches.
  • Charlotte FC have lost 3 of their last 6 MLS games.
  • Charlotte FC have scored 25 goals in 21 MLS games.

Conclusion

Neither Toronto FC nor Charlotte FC are particularly great teams or are playing exceptionally well at the moment. It is very likely that the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference match between these two sides will end in a draw.
