Everton have rejected a bid from Paris Saint-Germain for Idrissa Gana Gueye, according to several sources, including the northern football correspondent for The Times, Paul Joyce, and Merseyside football reporter for The Telegraph, Chris Bascombe.
The Ligue 1 champions are trying to reinforce their central midfield section as the departure of Adrien Rabiot from the Parc des Princes becomes practically imminent. They already lost out on much-coveted 21-year-old Frenkie de Jong of Ajax, who has chosen Barcelona over Paris as his next destination with the move agreed for the upcoming summer.
PSG have sealed the signing Leandro Paredes of Zenit for €40 million which will go some way to sooth the pain of Everton’s rejection of their £21.5 million bid for Gueye. However, as the bid came after Paredes had already been snapped up, it’s reasonable to assume that their transfer activities regarding their midfield will not stop just yet. It only remains to be seen whether they would try to entice Everton with a larger bid for the same player, or choose to look elsewhere.
