PSG join the race to sign Arsenal striker

The Daily Mail are this morning reporting that big-spending Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie.

It has been suggested in recent weeks that, despite Manchester City’s interest, Arsenal are confident their captain will remain at the club.

However, with a new contract not yet signed, PSG are keeping a close eye on the situation.

The French club certainly have the financial backing to make a move for Van Persie and manager Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of the forward from his time in England.

PSG face competition from other major European clubs of course, but they will hope that the financial package they could offer, as well as the exciting project they are working on, would be enough to convince Van Persie.

Despite this, Van Persie is still an Arsenal player and there are many that predict this will remain the case.

New signing Olivier Giroud certainly hopes he plays alongside Van Persie, rather than replaces him.

Speaking to the Sun about the Dutchman, Giroud said: “He has been at Arsenal for eight years, I hope I will have time to adapt and improve. Anyway, I don’t go there to take his place.”

Until the day the Van Persie contract situation is clarified, this is a transfer story that will continue to progress.

With PSG the latest to enter the race, don’t take your eyes of this one.
