PSG move to steal Barca’s Wijnaldum move

Paris Saint-Germain are attempting to thwart Barcelona’s move for Georginio Wijnaldum, according to multiple sources.

The midfielder’s contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the month, and he’s set leave Merseyside after five rather successful years at Anfield having failed to agree a new deal. Barcelona have been heavily tipped to bring him in, with head coach Ronald Koeman apparently keen on the player he knows well from his days as the Netherlands boss.

However, PSG have apparently entered the fray and contacted the 30-year-old with an offer of an extremely lucrative contract, much more so than the one he’d be signing with Barcelona. Being in a difficult financial situation, the Catalans are unable to match it.

Barcelona were confident of signing Wijnaldum and they had already prepared to conduct a medical at the Netherlands camp, but their confidence has been shaken by the PSG approach. Wijnaldum’s answer is expected to come within the next 48 hours.
