According to Marca, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has revealed that the French champions never submitted a bid for Cristiano Ronaldo during his days at Real Madrid.
Al-Khelaifi strongly claims the reports linking his club with the Portuguese superstar prior to his move to Juventus were extremely wide of the mark. With the club under heavy scrutiny regarding Financial Fair Play rules, signing Ronaldo would have been impossible for PSG, especially after investing €400million to sign Neymar from Barcelona and Kylian Mbappe from Monaco.
Without even looking at a potential wage bill the signing of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner along with Neymar would generate, Al-Khelaifi says they never contemplated having the pair of them in the same team. Another club official went as far as calling the reports ‘crazy’ and laughable.
What PSG are trying to do at this point is to establish a balanced approach when it comes to player recruitment, by having big-name stars in the team as well as young academy products.
