PSG reveal failed bid for Berbatov

Paris Saint-Germain director of football Leonardo has confirmed he has made a failed approach for Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian has only a year left on his current deal at Old Trafford, and was widely tipped to leave this summer after reportedly being unhappy at not featuring at all for United in last season’s Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.

Leonardo revealed he enquired about Berbatov in a recent phone conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson.

It is thought PSG were willing to offer as much as 12 million pounds for Berbatov, but he was told United would not consider a sale.

“I had Ferguson on the phone but he told me that he was counting on Berbatov and that he was not for sale,” the Brazilian told France Football.

PSG have already spent around 70 million pounds on the acquisition of new players this summer since the Qatar Investment Authority bought a controlling stake in the club at the end of May.
