Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has expressed his desire to keep Jermaine Pennant in his squad despite the player’s recent off-field problems.

The 29-year-old winger, who has made 27 appearances for the Potters this season, is currently on bail after being arrested for drink-driving and alleged assault.

However, his manager has reiterated his willingness to stand by his player, and would like to hold onto him for the remainder of his contract.

Pulis told Sky Sports News: “Do I want to keep him here? Yes, of course.

“He has another year on his contract. It’s unfortunate it has happened and we have to deal with it.

“We’ve taken the approach that we will look after him. Once we know what he has or hasn’t done, and what the court decide, we will deal with it.

“He has his court case on May 9. I’ve not spoken to anyone on the police force about it, so I can’t comment.

“I’m certainly not going to hang the kiddie before we know what this is all about.”

Stoke, who are within reach of a top 10 finish in the Premier League this season, finish their campaign with matches against QPR and Bolton.
