Chelsea are close to a spot in the semi finals of this year’s Champions League following a 1-3 win over eternal rivals Liverpool at Anfield Road.

A spectacular match at Anfield Road did not need long for the first goal to be scored. A low cross from Alvaro Arbeloa was well converted by Fernando Torres from about nine meters.

But Chelsea slowly began to win control over the match from then on and eventually got their reward on 39 minutes when Branislav Ivanovic jumped up at the right moment to head home from a Malouda corner.

And Ivanovic, whose goal was his first ever for Chelsea, would add his second ever on 62 minutes in a very similar situation. This time it was a Lampard corner from the left that allowed the left-back to head past keeper Reina.

A few minutes later, Chelsea even added a third. Didier Drogba, who had wasted several big chances, was now more successful following a Malouda cross.

The return leg is scheduled for April 14th at London’s Stamford Bridge.
