Rangers captain James Tavernier has confirmed he will leave at the end of the season, putting an end to his 11-year stay at Ibrox.

Tavernier joined Rangers in 2015 and has since made 562 appearances in all competitions, leading the team as captain for the last eight years.

He has been an influential figure at the club, making the sixth-most appearances across all competitions so far, while also scoring 144 goals and recording 148 assists.

Tavernier has won the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup, Scottish Championship and Scottish Challenge Cup during his time at Rangers and also led them to the Europa League final in 2021-22, when they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt.

“This club has been a huge part of my life, and my family’s, over the past 11 years,” said Tavernier.

“It’s given me so much, both on and off the pitch, and from the moment I arrived, I’ve always tried to give everything I had to represent it in the right way.

“To have had the honour of being made captain of this club since 2018 is something I will always be incredibly proud of.

“Leading this team out, wearing the armband and being trusted in that role has meant more to me than I can properly put into words.”

Tavernier revealed on Monday that Rangers had yet to offer him a new contract, with his exit coming at the end of the season when his current deal runs out.

Rangers are currently second in the top-flight, just one point behind leaders Hearts and two above Celtic in a tight battle for the trophy with five games remaining.

“There is still a season to finish, and we are fully focused on pushing for the league title,” Tavernier added.

“I will continue to give absolutely everything, as I always have, until the very last day.

“My focus right now is on finishing this season the right way, together.”
