Reading sign USA midfielder Williams

Reading have signed United States midfielder Danny Williams from German side Hoffenheim for an undisclosed fee.

The 24 year old has signed a four year contract with the Championship club, and will move to the Madjeski Stadium subject to international clearance.

Williams made forty-five appearances for Hoffernheim since moving from Freiburg in 2011, scoring his only goal in a 3-1 win over Hannover 96 last September.

He has also been capped 12 times for the United States, and is expected to feature in next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

He becomes Nigel Adkins’ third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Dutch midfielder Royston Drenthe and former England international left-back Wayne Bridge, and will become the third USA international to play for the Royals.

Bobby Convey played almost 100 league games between 2004 and 2009 before moving to the MLS, while goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann fell just short of 300 games in a nine year period that also ended four years ago.
