Handed the chance to climb to top spot in the Segunda standings, Real Zaragoza will welcome a stalling Malaga to the Estadio de la Romareda on Thursday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Real Zaragoza may have been disappointed to have only picked up a point against Real Oviedo over the weekend, it has been an incredibly bright start for Víctor Fernández’s men. Now the only side in Spain’s second-tier to hold an unbeaten start to the new campaign, Los Maños are unbeaten in their opening seven appearances and also hold a game in hand. A huge part of their promotion push has come thanks to their defensive resolve. With their sights set on landing a La Liga return, no side in the Segunda has conceded fewer goals than Thursday’s hosts.

As for the visitors, while Malaga may have started the new Segunda campaign as one of the favorites to land a La Liga return, it has been nothing short of a woeful start. Putting in another worrying display in their 0-0 draw at home against fellow strugglers Sporting Gijón over the weekend, the former Spanish giants have failed to record a victory in their last seven outings and have shown some real issues in the final third. Now failing to find the net in back-to-back appearances and holding the worst attacking record in the Segunda division, their midweek trip could prove to be another long evening’s work.
