New Manchester City striker Robinho will strike fear into the rest of the Premier League, according to manager Mark Hughes.
The Brazil forward signed from Real Madrid for a British record transfer fee of £32.4million on Monday night and City’s Premier League title odds were immediately shortened into 50.0 from triple figure odds.
Chelsea were desperate to land the 24-year-old star, but with Real seemingly unwilling to do business with the London club, Hughes stepped in to tie Robinho to a four-year deal at Eastlands.
“It’s a fantastic signing for us. If we’re going to get to the places we want to get to we are going to have to compete against outstanding teams. We have to attract world-class players and that is what we have done.
“He is an exceptional talent and opposition teams are going to fear him,” said Hughes.
The exciting frontman, who has been capped 42 times by Brazil, is soccer odds of 52.0 to end the season as the Premier League’s top scorer. That feat might be just too big a task in his debut season in English football, but after 15 goals for Real last term he looks good value at 8.2 to finish in the top four of the league’s marksmen.
