Roma ponder Benteke swoop

Italian giants AS Roma are exploring the possibility of making a move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Belgian striker has been on their radar for over a year now, but the Giallorossi could step up their interest in the coming weeks.

Namely, Rudi Garcia plans to recruit Benteke in case Mattia Destro leaves the club, and it is important to note that the Italy international continues to be linked with Stadio Olimpico exit.

The Belgium international remained at Villa Park despite handing in a transfer request last summer, with England’s top clubs having expressed interest in his services.

Benteke has been raising his form of late after returning from a difficult injury, and it appears it is only a matter of time before he leaves the Villans for a top European club.

Aston Villa face Swansea on the road on Boxing Day and Paul Lambert’s charges are 17/4 to win at Liberty Stadium.
