Ronaldo rates La Liga the best in the world

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo believes La Liga is the best league in the world because of the players’ technical standards.

Speaking after being awarded the Best Player of the Year Award at the annual Globe Soccer convention in Dubai on Wednesday, the 26-year-old also paid tribute to the English Premier League for helping him mould his game.

But Ronaldo, the former Manchester United forward, said La Liga was superior to any other.

“I follow the Portuguese championship, but I prefer the English Premier League, where I learnt the elementary basic rules of football, especially discipline,” he said.

“But the Spanish league is exceptional. It relies more on personal and technical skills.”

“I believe that La Liga is the best league worldwide, although I spent six years in the UK. Both championships are completely different to one another on technical levels.”

The Portugal international has enjoyed a fine season for La Liga leaders Real Madrid, scoring 20 league goals.

Ronaldo said he was content at the Bernabeu, and added he was happy to remain in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

“I am a player and players can adapt to any league. I can play in any country, but I’m happy today with Real and will stay with them in the future,” he said.

“Frankly, I haven’t thought about the next step. I’m just enjoying the moment and continuing to enjoy my football at Real Madrid. For the moment, Spain presents the greatest pleasure for me.”
