Palermo coach Delio Rossi believes his young side have all the makings of Serie A contenders, but insists they need time to realise the dream.

Heading into the winter break Rossi’s side are sixth in Serie A and just nine points behind league leaders AC Milan, but the coach will be keen to improve on his fifth-place finish last season.

And as he reflects on the 2010 season hitherto, the 50-year-old former Lazio boss said he is looking forward to even more improvement from his side in the years ahead.

“This year Palermo’s average age has gone down from 26.95 to 25, almost two years less than last year. We’re the youngest team of the Serie A,” Rossi said.

“Sometimes it takes years to complete a project of growth and improvement, whereas it takes just a few minutes to destroy everything.”

“Seeing these figures, we know that the team is young and is able to improve, but we need patience and the right love to make this project move forward.”

“Thinking to what we’ll be doing in 2011, I do believe that we can grow further and I hope this will happen thanks to everybody’s commitment and thanks to the people that always supported us.”
