Santa Cruz agrees pay cut to stay with Betis

Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz admits he is willing to take a pay cut in order to remain at Real Betis.

The towering striker joined the La Liga side on loan at the start of the season, with Manchester City agreeing to cover part of his wages.

Under the agreement, Real Betis are paying the Paraguayan €1.5 million during his loan spell, with the player’s parent club covering the difference.

Roque Santa Cruz is now eager to remain at Estadio Benito Villamarin, but in order to extend his loan the Praguayan will have to take a pay cut as Manchester City are no longer prepared to pay his wages.

The experienced forward reveals that he is more than happy to do so and he believes Manchester City chiefs will not stand in his way.

“We have talked to the club about the issue and I am prepared (to take a pay cut),” Santa Cruz told Punto Radio.

“Now it is important for City not to put any obstacles, but I think there will be no problems.”

The Paraguayan has featured in 26 La Liga games for Real Betis this season and scored 6 goals in the process.
