Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has learned that Sporting Lisbon are on the verge of signing Colombian forward Fredy Montero from Seattle Sounders.

According to the same source, the Lions have agreed to pay €2.5 million for the 25-year-old, although the fee could rise to €4 million depending on various performance related bonuses.

Fredy Montero will sign a five-year deal at Estadio Jose Alvalade subject to passing a medical, although he is not expected in Portugal until next week.

The Colombia international began his career at Deportivo Cali and he enjoyed loan spells with Academia and Atletico Hulia before joining Seattle.

After scoring 47 goals in 129 league matches for the MLS side, Montero returned to Colombia as he joined Milionaires on a season-long loan in January 2013.

Considering that his loan deal was cut short in order to complete a switch to Sporting Lisbon, Millionaires will earn around €250,000 in compensation.
