September 3rd: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 8/1

With another hectic schedule from across England on our hands, we have a string of fixtures that are worth keeping an eye out for. So, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth taking note of.

Saturday September 3rd

BST 15:00 Sheffield Wednesday vs Barnsley

While Sheffield Wednesday might have been disappointed to have not booked a Championship return last season, the Owls have come roaring back this time around. In the midst of what has been a stellar purple patch since opening the 2022/23 campaign, Head Coach Darren Moore should find the mood in his camp at a real high. Last seen laying down a real marker as they stormed their way to a 5-0 romp against Forest Green on home soil, the former West Brom boss should be smelling another chance on Saturday afternoon. Opening this weekend’s fixtures sat just a single point adrift of breaking into the automatic promotion spots, Sheffield Wednesday have now won each of their previous three domestic matchups on the spin. Likewise, extending on their EFL Cup run last month thanks to a 3-0 victory against Rochdale, Moore’s men have also won six of their last seven contests across all formats. On the flip side, after losing their Championship status back in May, Barnsley have really struggled with adjusting to life back in England’s third-tier. Despite being last seen snatching a lively 2-2 draw away at Ipswich, Saturday’s guests have managed to win just one of their last five outings. With their downbeat run underlined by a 3-0 drumming at home against Wycombe on August 20th, we’re backing what could be a tough test for the Yorkshire-based outfit.

Tip: Sheffield Wednesday win @ 7/10

15:00 Portsmouth vs Peterborough

After only just scrapping themselves a top-half finish last season, Portsmouth are another League One outfit who have their sights set on mounting a real promotion charge. Making the decision to stick with Danny Cowley over the summer, Pompey have come flying out the traps this time around. Last seen over the weekend picking up a deserved 1-0 victory away at Port Vale, the ex-Huddersfield boss finds his side leading the chase at the top of England’s third-tier. In fact, now winning five of their last six matchups across all formats, the south coast outfit have also picked up some notable scalps. Extending on their EFL Cup adventure on August 9th as they claimed an eye-catching 3-0 romp away at Championship side Cardiff, Portsmouth have also lost just one of their opening eight competitive outings. It should also be noted, Cowley’s high-flying squad have picked up back-to-back 3-1 and 4-1 victories against Cambridge and Bristol Rovers at Fratton Park. As for Peterborough, while the Posh might also be leading the play-off chase, Saturday’s guests are enduring a recent blip. Including a shock 1-0 loss away at Stevenage on August 23rd, Grant McCann’s men were also last seen getting hit with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Derby. With Pompey landing a 2-0 victory when the two sides faced off on the south coast last season, we’re backing a similar home win here.

Tip: Portsmouth win @ 5/4

15:00 Aldershot vs Barnet

Although Barnet might have found themselves in a real scrap to hang onto their National League status last season, the Bees appear to have put all of those issues behind them. Despite getting hit with a 3-1 loss away at early-season title contenders Chesterfield on August 26th, Dean Brennan’s men made an immediate return to winning ways earlier in the week. Last seen picking up a deserved 3-1 victory at home against Eastleigh, Saturday’s guests have managed to muster 13 points from their opening six fifth-tier outings. Now with a play-off finish firmly at the top of their agenda, the former Wealdstone boss has seen his side win three of their last four National League matchups. Enjoying what has been a stellar overhaul this summer, Barnet should be looking to cash in on an Aldershot side who are in the midst of a real struggle. Suffering a sluggish 3-1 defeat at home against Maidstone earlier in the week, the Hampshire-based outfit are sat rock-bottom of the fifth-tier table. In fact, along with losing five of their opening six National League contests, Saturday’s hosts have also lost their last three appearances on the bounce. It should also be highlighted, with Barnet winning each of their previous three meetings against Aldershot by an aggregate score of 8-3, a similar away victory can be found at appealing odds here.

Tip: Barnet win @ 7/5
