AC Milan missed a chance to go top of the Serie A on Wednesday, while Diego Milito scored four goals in Inter’s thrilling draw with Palermo.

Massimiliano Allegri’s Milan side travelled to Rome to face Lazio knowing that even a draw would see them climb above Juventus and take top spot on the table.

But they could not manage that as two goals in the last 15 minutes gave Lazio a 2-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico.

Brazilian Hernanes opened the scoring on 77 minutes before Tommaso Rocchi sealed the three points with his finish five minutes from time.

Lazio now sit in fourth, just five points behind the table-topping Juventus.

Despite Milito’s heroics for Inter, they were held to a draw by Palermo in a 4-4 shootout at the San Siro.

Andrea Mantovani handed the visitors an early lead, but Milito’s quick response ensured scores were level at half-time.

Fabrizio Miccoli was about to have a big impact on the match as well and his 52nd minute strike gave Palermo the lead.

Milito hit back with a penalty before sealing his hat-trick just after the hour-mark when he converted Esteban Cambiasso’s assist.

Miccoli was not to be denied and he levelled it up at 3-3 after 66 minutes before yet again, Inter’s Argentine forward found the back of the net.

It capped a remarkable period of the game where five goals were scored in 17 minutes and once things settled down, Inter seemed headed for victory.

But Miccoli had the last laugh as he bagged a treble of his own, with his 85th minute strike forcing the two sides to share the spoils.

Other results saw Cagliari come from behind to defeat Roma 4-2, with Brazil’s Thiago Ribeiro scoring a double for the winners.

Antonio Di Natale’s 19th goal in all competitions this season handed Udinese a 2-1 success against Lecce while Napoli and strugglers Cesena played out a goalless draw.

Earlier, heavy snow in Italy forced the postponement of Atalanta v Genoa, Siena v Catania and Bologna v Fiorentina.
