Slade tenders Orient resignation

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade has tendered his resignation at Brisbane Road in an attempt to force a move to Cardiff City.

Slade has been earmarked as the man to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Welsh capital, though the Londoners have thus far held firm in their attempts to keep hold of the former Grimsby Town and Yeovil Town boss.

A stuttering start to the season had seen Slade’s job security at Orient come under threat earlier this month, despite taking the club to last season’s League One play-off final.

And a statement from Orient, released on Wednesday, confirmed an approach from Cardiff had been brushed away, prompting the manager to look to take matters into his own hands.

It read: “The chairman and the CEO of Leyton Orient have received a resignation letter from Russell Slade a few minutes ago.

“This has not happened by chance after the club rejected this afternoon, a proposal from the General Manager of Cardiff City regarding the transfer of Russell Slade.

“The lawyers of the club are now studying the file.”

Solskjaer was sacked by Cardiff last week after overseeing the club’s relegation from the Premier League and a poor start to the Championship season that left them in the lower reaches of the division.

Danny Gabbidon and Scott Young are in temporary charge of first-team affairs.
