Southampton identify Lovren replacement

Southampton are lining up a move for Aston Villa centre-back Ron Vlaar as they prepare for life after Liverpool-bound Dejan Lovren, the Mirror understands.

Croatia international Lovren is close to securing a £20m move to Anfield which will see him become the fourth big name to leave the South Coast club this summer, and the third to head to Anfield.

Rickie Lambert was brought in by Brendan Rodgers ahead of the World Cup finals in Brazil, with his international teammate Adam Lallana following suit a month earlier this month while Luke Shaw has also ended his time at St Mary’s after sealing a £32m switch to Manchester United.

Vlaar was one of the stand-out performers for the Netherlands in South America, drawing admiration from countryman Ronald Koeman, who took charge at Southampton last month.

The 29 year old moved to Aston Villa in the summer of 2012, and has gone on to make 50 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring twice.
