(GSM) – Several stars of the Spanish national team will have to miss a prize ceremony as both Real Madrid and Barcelona refuse to let their players attend.

The Spanish team was awarded the Prince of Asturias prize for sport after winning the World Cup in July, with the ceremony scheduled for October 22 in Oviedo.

Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola set that he respected the importance of the award but refuses to let his eight national team players attend the ceremony.

The Spaniard was joined by Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, who answered the same question with a clear “no”.

While this means that team captain Iker Casillas will be absent, the organisation of the ceremony will still have manager Vicente Del Bosque to receive the prize.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid will be in the midst of final match preparations on October 22nd as they face Real Zaragoza and Racing Santander respectively the next day.
