The former Spanish international, Joseba Etxeberria, will play his last season for nothing with his club Athletic Bilbao.

The 31-year-old has 13 consecutive seasons behind him in La Liga. Next season will be his last at Bilbao before retiring, but instead of making money out of it, he will donate all to charity.

This is a wish I’ve had for many years,” said Etxeberria.

The star midfielder came from Real Sociedad to Bilbao as a 17-year-old in 1995. His move was quite controversial. Bilbao paid over 3 million euros, which at the time was the highest transfer fee paid for an under-18 player in Spanish football. Since then he has played 416 league games for the club, and he has also managed to score twelve goals in 53 caps for Spain.
