Competition: Primeira Liga
Market: Sporting Lisbon to beat Chaves
Odds: 4/7 @ Bet 365

Looking to close the gap on Primeira Liga leaders Porto, Jorge Jesus Sporting Lisbon side will be looking to carry on their recent form in their Europa League last 16 first leg victory over Viktoria Pizen. On Monday night, Jesus’ side will travel to Chaves who also have their eye on securing European football next year.

For the hosts on Monday night, Luis Castro’s Chaves side have enjoyed a respectable season after an 11th place finish last season. Currently sat sixth in the Primeira Liga table, Chaves may sit 19 points adrift of the top four, Flavienses still remain in contention to secure a Europa League spot. However, while Chaves may have won three out of their last five, they tend to struggle when they face off against any of Portugal’s top sides. In their six matches against sides in the top four, Chaves have lost all six, including a 5-1 defeat to Lisbon in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

As for the visitors on Monday night, while their spot in next years Champions League is all but confirmed, Jorge Jesus side will be desperate to close the eight-point gap on league leaders Porto. Coming off the back of a 2-0 win in the Europa League on Thursday night, Sporting have also been in impressive form in Primeira Liga, Jesus side have now only lost two of their last 18 domestic matches. Their fine form this season can also be put down to the success of Bas Dost, the Dutch forward already has 20 league goals in 25 league games this season.
