Teenager Harvey Elliott set for new Liverpool contract

Liverpool are planning to present an offer of a new contract to Harvey Elliott, after the teenager’s impressive emergence as a regular first-team option under Jurgen Klopp, according to multiple sources.

Liverpool signed Elliott from Fulham’s Under-18 side in 2019 and having seen him play a season for their Under-21s, they sent him out on loan to Blackburn Rovers to gain some vital senior experience. He returned to Merseyside in 2021 and has been putting impressive performances since, showing Klopp he can be counted on even in big games.

The 19-year-old has so far represented the Reds on 22 occasions, scoring once and assisting twice. A right winger by trade, he could one day be the long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, but for the time being, he mostly plays a box-to-box role in a midfield of three. Despite his tender age, he’s already won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, as well as the Community Shield last month when he made a fine 17-minute cameo against Premier League champions Manchester City.

The progress Elliott has made is well-reflected in the fact that he’s already on a long-term contract at Liverpool, which he signed only last year, but the club obviously feel he deserves improved terms already.
