Tello snubbed Liverpool for Barca stay

Barcelona forward Christian Tello has revealed that he was aware of the Liverpool interest during the summer transfer window.

The talented footballer was the subject of a bid from Anfield as he had just one year left on his deal at Camp Nou, but he ultimately opted to remain at Camp Nou and even signed a new contract.

Tello is now tied to Barcelona until June 2018, with a £20 million release clause inserted in his deal.

The 22-year-old admits he was aware of the interest from Liverpool, but he was always determined to stay and fight for his place in the side.

“I always wanted to stay here. The coach has confidence in me, I’m happy and ready to play,” Tello told reporters.

“I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never thought about leaving.”

Christian Tello was handed his La Liga debut during the 2011/2012 season and he has since been showing steady improvement.

The winger went on to make 39 La Liga appearances for the Catalans, scoring 10 goals and winning one league title in the process.
