Massimiliano Allegri would like nothing more than to finish 2012 atop the Serie A table.

The reigning champions are looking to make it 11 league games unbeaten when they travel to 12th-placed Cagliari on Tuesday.

They briefly leapt to the top of the Serie A table with Saturday’s 2-0 win over Siena, before Juventus reclaimed their two-point lead courtesy of a 2-0 triumph over Novara on Sunday.

“We should be doing our best in order not to make mistakes because, as I’ve said before the match against Siena, these are important points in our quest for the league title,” said Allegri, whose side’s first match after the mid-season break is at Atalanta on January 8.

“We should do our best to reach the top of the table, and to do that we need to keep winning. We know that (Tuesday’s) match isn’t going to be easy, as any other match.”

“It is difficult to win in Cagliari, since Cagliari plays in a different way and leaves very little space in which to play at home. We will start thinking to the holidays only from the day after tomorrow.”

“As I’ve always said, it is possible to win the championship even if we don’t play that well, if the team are able to win matches.”

Milan has scored 33 goals in the league this season, thanks mainly to striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the contribution of goals from midfield.

Ibrahimovic has scored 10 goals in 12 Serie A games this season, but Robinho and Antonio Cassano – the latter of who will miss the rest of the season – are Milan’s next best strikers, with two each.

“Apart from Ibrahimovic’s goals, we’re missing a few goals from the forwards,” Allegri said.

“But this is not a problem, since I’m sure that Pato and Robinho will soon start to get more goals. From that point of view, I’m happy.”

“It is a positive sign that midfielders are scoring goals. Last year, the midfielders scored some goals and this year the midfielders have scored 13 goals up to now and we aren’t even at the half-way point yet.”
