Francesco Totti said he will support Luis Enrique’s efforts to bring Roma to the top of the Serie A, calling for unity after recent tension.
The Roma captain has been in the spotlight after showing discontent at manager Enrique’s decision to use the 34-year-old sparingly in the recent Europa League tie against Slovan Bratislava.
Totti was substituted off late in the second leg with the aggregate score at 1-1, but in his absence, Bratislava found a winner to progress to the group stages.
Walter Sabatini, the club’s sporting director, urged Totti to mend his differences with his boss as he issued a clear message for the good of the club last week.
Totti has taken note as he tries to restore an air of cohesion following their departure from European club football’s second-tier tournament in the play-off round.
“The team is complete and we are ready to start a new season on Sunday against Cagliari and so we have to pull together and draw close to the coach,” Totti said, as quoted by Corriere dello Sport.
“We must start in the best way possible and I hope the supporters can sustain us, I am the biggest fan here.”
“We have to all be united for Roma.”
Roma will host Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico to kick off their domestic campaign.
