Chelsea’s bid to land Tottenham’s Luka Modric has stepped up with the Blues offering Salomon Kalou as part of an exchange deal.

Chelsea looked short of pace and creativity in Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Stoke City and new manager Andre Villas-Boas has moved quickly to renew his interest in Modric.

Previously, the Blues had just offered money for Modric but the potential exchange of Kalou will surely ignite Tottenham’s interest.

Harry Redknapp’s side had just one player to score more than 10 goals in the English Premier League last season and they are keen to acquire a new striker.

A potential swap could solve that problem for Tottenham while helping Chelsea land their long-time transfer target.

Since signing for Chelsea in 2006, Kalou has not been a regular starter, but has still chipped in with 55 goals from 132 matches.

He started at Stoke on Sunday but with Daniel Sturridge suspended and the arrival of Belgian wonderkid Romelu Lukaku, Kalou could see his opportunities vanish.

In other transfer news, Russian Premier League outfit Anzhi Makhachkala are set to sign Cameroon forward Samuel Eto’o and Ukraine midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk.

Eto’o was expected to have a medical on Monday but that has been rescheduled to Thursday in Rome, while Tymoschuk is reported to have agreed personal terms with the club according to Sovietski Sport.

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Eboue is also set to confirm a transfer, with the Ivorian midfielder on the verge of joining Turkish Super Lig outfit Galatasaray.

Eboue flew to Turkey on Monday to finalise his move, with the Ivorian set to follow fellow midfielder Cesc Fabregas out the door at the Emirates.
