Portugal and Switzerland are set to lock horns in the first UEFA Nations League semi-final on Wednesday evening at Estadio Do Dragao.

Starting with the hosts, although Portugal may have secured their spot in the semi-finals of this summers tournament after topping a group shared with Italy and Poland, Fernando Santos’ men are enduring a sluggish run of form. Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw at home to Serbia, the former European champions have now drawn their last four matches on the bounce. Sat behind both Ukraine and Luxembourg in the race to secure qualification for EURO 2020, fans in Porto will be growing more concerned by Portugal’s form in the final third. Glad to see that five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to start on Wednesday, the hosts have now scored just two goals in nearly 400 minutes of action.

As for the visitors, although Switzerland would have been extremely disappointed to have only picked up a point against Denmark back in March, the mood in Vladimir Petković’s camp should be on a high. Picking up a famous 5-2 win against Belgium to secure their spot in the semi-finals, the Reds have now lost just one of their last five outings. Aside from looking to secure their spot at next year’s European Championships, there are some minor concerns about Switzerland’s form on the road when up against some Europe’s elite. Despite picking up victories over Iceland and Georgia, they have slumped to defeats against England, Sweden, and Belgium, scoring just one goal in any of those defeats outside of Lugano.
