With this weekend’s MLS fixtures opening up at the New Crew Stadium on Saturday night, Columbus will host New England in a matchup that is famously a cagey affair.

Starting with the hosts, while Columbus might have thought they had turned a real corner with their three consecutive wins on either side of the international break, The Crew have shown some recent issues once again. Despite being handed what looked like a golden chance away at Austin earlier in the week, Caleb Porter’s men had to settle for a sluggish 0-0 stalemate on the road. Failing to bounce back from that 1-0 loss against Philadelphia Union on June 24th, the Eastern Conference outfit have also drawn a blank in back-to-back contests across all formats for the third time this season. While Columbus might have continued to impress with their extended performances at the New Crew Stadium, Porter’s side could be concerned by their most recent meeting against Saturday’s opponents. When the two sides faced off back in May, The Revolution picked up a deserved 1-0 victory on home soil.

As for the visitors, while New England might have gained a string of plaudits on either side of the international break, The Revolution came crashing back down to earth last time out. Watching their extended five-match MLS winning run come to an abrupt end, Bruce Arena’s squad were hit with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Dallas on the road. Although the Eastern Conference outfit might still find themselves holding a two-point buffer at the top of the table, they have also shown a host of recent issues with their performances on the road. Including that defeat away at the Toyota Stadium, New England have recorded just a pair of away victories since opening the 2021 campaign. However, it should be noted, with each of the last five straight meetings between Saturday’s opponents seeing under 2.5 goals by the final whistle, we’re backing a similar outcome here.

Bet: Under 3.5 goals at Columbus Crew vs New England 1/2 for Saturday’s MLS matchup @ 888sport
