Manchester Evening News have relayed reports from France that Manchester United are keen on signing Lille’s Nicolas Pepe.
An Ivory Coast international, Pepe has been capped nine times with three national team goals to his name, while for Lille he has made 43 appearances and found the net 18 times. In their last game, he scored a hat-trick (including two penalties), securing a 3-2 win over Amiens.
ESPN had been reporting an interest from Sevilla and Southampton in the 23-year-old over the summer, going as far as the Saints seeing a £12.5million bid turned down. Arsenal have also been linked with him.
But now French outlet Telefoot apparently claim scouts have been sent from Old Trafford to see the young winger up close before deciding on whether to move in and make their interest more concrete. There has been plenty of speculation on the future of Anthony Martial following him being fined by the club for leaving to attend the birth of his child, amid a number of reports of a rift with manager Jose Mourinho.
Pepe could be viewed at United as a potential replacement for the Frenchman.
