Arsenal forward Robin van Persie admitted that he did not get the best out of himself during his time at Feyenoord.

The 28-year-old started his professional career at the Rotterdam giants, and won one UEFA Cup with Feyenoord before leaving the Eredivisie side for London ahead of the 2003-04 season.

Van Persie has only fond memories of his time at De Kuip, but the Netherlands international said he feels that he could have got more out of himself.

“Some amazing things happened during my time at Feyenoord, and I have nothing but good memories. However, I could have achieved more had I got the best out of myself,” Van Persie told Feyenoord Magazine.

“I still feel that I could have done better. I’m at the top of my game now at Arsenal, and I did not manage to do that at Feyenoord for a number of reasons. I could have offered more in those days, and that’s a bit of a shame. I am looking back at my time at the club very positively, though.”

Van Persie has been in excellent scoring form for Arsenal, as he sits well clear on top of the Premier League Golden Boot standings with 22 goals from 25 appearances.
